Seven years ago we arrived in the mythical wine village of Gevrey Chambertin to start our crazy retirement project - renovating the former Faiveley winery to create Boutique hotel and wine stop Les Deux Chevres (#No1 Burgundy Trip Advisor 😁). We brought with us our collection of Bordeaux - why pay storage charges in the UK, when we now had buildings with vaulted caves, and a hotel requiring stock?
Since then we have gotten a bit wiser (and a bit older).
Second, the fact that the bottle has Gevrey Chambertin on the label 👍, does not automatically mean that it is great wine 👎. The quality of Gevrey can vary from the ethereal, with an aftertaste that just goes on, to the unreal, where the first taste is more than enough .

First it is not so easy to sell Bordeaux in Burgundy - however good it may be 😁 😭
Thirdly, the terroir in Gevrey is so special, that in the hands of a good winemaker, a humble Bourgogne or Village appellation, can be better than some winemakers grands crus 🍇. So find some good winemakers, and follow them - the wine will be good year in year out.
